Trees
There's something special about a beloved tree. Whether that's the one tree that's the only spot of green on your city street, the tree you spent hours climbing as a child, or the tall beauties that grace your favorite park, many people hold a special one or two near and dear in their hearts and would be devastated to see them go. A few years ago I thought one of my favorite trees was going to be cut down and it inspired this group of work. Each painting starts with a visit to the tree in question for reference images and some fallen branches. I make those branches into charcoal and use some of that charcoal in the creation of the tree's portrait. In that way, a part of the actual tree is in each painting and preserved forever. Here's to all the quiet, stately guardians that have made my life and yours a little more beautiful.
